Ashwell Prince cracked an unbeaten ton as Lancashire overcame a wobbly start to reach a respectable 269-8 at the end of the opening day of their final Division Two match of the season against Kent.
The South African came to the crease after the visitors had lost their skipper and opener Paul Horton for a duck - on the second ball of the day at Canterbury - caught at second slip by Darren Stevens off the bowling of Mark Davies.
Prince hit 134 from 280 deliveries, cracking 17 fours and one six, and together with Karl Brown helped to shape the Lancashire innings.
The left-hander barely put a foot wrong against a makeshift Kent attack shorn of Calum Haggett, Mitch Claydon and Charlie Shreck.
It was his 35th first-class ton, with Prince also bringing up 15,000 first-class runs during the day.
Brown weighed-in with 42 off 86 balls, although no other Lancashire batsman reached 20.
Prince and Brown put on 71 in 27.1 overs for the fourth wicket, to prevent the hosts from taking charge on the opening day.
Prince will return to the crease on Wednesday in a bid to boost Lancashire's chances of completing the season without losing a single Division Two game.
The Red Rose county have already secured both promotion and the Division Two title.
