Adam opens scoring but Miller levels for Dons

Ten-man Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Aberdeen in an entertaining, high-tempo game at Pittodrie. The Dons' Jamie Smith had the first chance of the game, blasting just over on 10 minutes after unleashing a shot from the edge of the penalty box. Gers' Alan Hutton then had his effort well-saved by Dons keeper Jamie Langfield on 12 minutes when he tried to place the ball rather than using power. But Gers were in front on 30 minutes when Charlie Adam converted a superb cross by Lee McCulloch, who himself had been fed by Hutton.

Melee

But Gers then went down to ten men on 37 minutes when McCulloch received a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident on Scott Severin which was spotted by the linesman as a melee ensued following a Chris Clark challenge on Hutton. Barry Ferguson also appeared to be involved in the Severin incident and was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch. Adam then almost added a second goal with a well struck free-kick on 43 minutes but Langfield went down well to save. But the Dons drew level deep into first-half stoppage time when Richie Byrne's teasing cross could only be parried by Gers keeper Allan McGregor and Lee Miller converted the rebound.
Chances
After the break, both teams had chances, the best of which fell to Daniel Cousin on 63 minutes but brave keeper Langfield took the ball from the striker's feet. Then in the 75th minute, Gers substitute Kris Boyd was found in the box with a pin-point Steven Naismith ball but put his shot wide under pressure. Boyd then had another chance three minutes later after being put through by Kevin Thomson, but again put his shot wide. Two minutes later Dons' Alexander Diamond almost scored an own goal from a dangerous Naismith cross. The draw leaves Gers still in second place in the SPL - two points and two games in hand behind Celtic - while the Dons move up to sixth.
