Cox effort does the damage at Memorial Ground

Swindon moved above their League One neighbours Bristol Rovers courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Memorial Ground. An evenly contested affair saw both sides conjure chances, before with just over 15 minutes to go Simon Cox popped up with a winner. Swindon started the brighter of the two sides as Michael Timlin fired wide when well placed from little more than 10 yards from goal. The home side hit back with some crisp football and went close to opening the scoring when Rickie Lambert capitalised on a mistake from Miguel Comminges, only for Rovers' top goalscorer to find Town keeper Peter Brezovan in inspired form. Swindon striker Lee Peacock squandered two decent chances, either side of a rasping drive over from Lambert. Brezovan again pulled off a wonder stop in his duel with Lambert as the game went into the break level. After the interval and the bustling Lambert again tested Swindon's resolve, while at the other end Cox and Peacock both forced saves from Stephen Phillips in the home goal. With less than 20 minutes left on the clock Lambert missed yet another glorious chance in firing over when clean through, before Cox broke the deadlock at the other end with a thumping header from Jon-Paul McGovern's corner.
