Roper late-show saves Luton

Luton staged a late rally to extend their unbeaten run to six matches with a 2-2 draw at Chesterfield.

Chesterfield forced to settle for share of spoils

Luton staged a late rally to extend their unbeaten run to six matches with a 2-2 draw at Chesterfield. Town looked sharper in the first half, but failed to make the most of their chances as Tommy Lee denied Paul McVeigh after he was sent clear by Tom Craddock before the latter himself shot wide after Kevin Gallen set him up. Michael Spillane almost put Luton in front just before the break, but his header was well saved by Lee before Chesterfield edged in front against the run of play with a 45th-minute goal as Jamie Lowry headed on a long clearance for Jamie Ward, who beat two defenders before firing home. Luton were undeterred and kept up the pressure in the second half before they levelled after 56 minutes as McVeigh chipped the ball into the box and Craddock smashed a first-time shot past Lee. Chesterfield got back in front eight minutes from the end when substitute Scott Boden calmly fired home from inside the box. But Luton attacked to the end and, after Lee made two excellent saves, the visitors levelled in the sixth minute of time added on when Ian Roper headed home a corner from Jake Howells.
