Alexander rescues point for Town

Gary Alexander rescued a point for 10-man Crawley with a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 home draw against AFC Wimbledon.

Alexander's equaliser extended his promotion-chasing side's unbeaten run to 11 games. Sammy Moore put the Dons ahead by blasting home from 15 yards following a square pass by George Moncur in the 77th minute. But Alexander, on loan from Brentford, made it 1-1 four minutes later with an equally emphatic finish from a similar distance after being set up by skipper Dannie Bulman. It came after Crawley defender Hope Akpan received a straight red card in only the sixth minute for a wild challenge on Jason Prior, who had to be stretchered off with a suspected broken leg. The hosts had threatened early on when Billy Clarke set up Alexander and his low goalbound shot was parried by goalkeeper Seb Brown. Dons striker Jack Midson wasted a glorious opening by firing over at the far post following a corner by Gareth Gwillim, and Midson later had a deflected 25-yard drive held by goalkeeper Michel Kuipers. Kuipers came to Crawley's rescue shortly after the break with a low save to deny Midson following good work on the left by substitute Byron Harrison. Crawley midfielder Scott Neilson had a goalbound shot parried by Brown before Alexander was thwarted in front of goal by defender Mat Mitchel-King.
