Doncaster are now bottom of the Championship after losing 1-0 at home to South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley.
Jon Macken's first-half strike proved the difference between the sides, with the former Derby front man tapping home from close range following good work from Anderson De Silva to score what was the Tykes' first away goal since the opening day of the season.
Doncaster, though, will look to a series of missed chances in the second half as their own barren run in front of goal continued.
Rovers have found the net on just two occasions at the Keepmoat Stadium this season and if they fail to drastically improve on this a long season of struggle will await them.
Manager Sean O'Driscoll made two changes to his side with James O'Connor and Stuart Elliott coming in for the suspended Brian Stock and James Chambers, who failed to shake off an ankle injury in time to feature.
Barnsley's starting XI remained unchanged for the third match although there was no place on the bench for goalkeeper Luke Steele.
First chance
The first chance of the match fell to the visitors when after a quick break from Jamal Campbell-Ryce on the wing the ball fell to Macken in the area, but his turn then shot was easily gathered by Rovers goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.
Even without the huge influence of Richie Wellens and Stock in the centre of the park the hosts more than held their own in the opening period and were within inches of taking the lead after 10 minutes when Jason Price dragged a shot just wide from the edge of the area.
However, Reds midfielder De Silva should have broken the deadlock moments later.
After good work from winger Martin Devaney the ball fell kindly to the Brazilian who needlessly went for power instead of placement and blazed it over from eight yards.
De Silva was having an influence on proceedings at both ends as a misplaced pass almost let Price in on goal on a couple of occasions, while soon after he almost broke Sullivan's net with a shot which sailed just over after a brilliant run from midfield.
But it was from another moment of Brazilian magic that the opening goal came. De Silva tricked his way to the byline before crossing for Macken to slide the ball home with ease.
Second half
The second half started much like the first with attacking football at both ends - Devaney going close for the Reds while Price should have done better with a volley attempt from just inside the area.
The burly striker was at the heart of Rovers' best work but the lack of support from midfield was evident as Muller continued to act as a mere spectator in the Barnsley goal.
As the half wore on Rovers started to exert more pressure on the visiting goal and they can count themselves unlucky not to have equalised in the 57th minute when a dangerous free-kick missed everyone and just shaved the far post.
Lewis Guy then went close with a curling shot from the edge of the area while Price's torrid night in front of goal continued as he blazed over from close range.
As the clock was running down Heinz Muller produced a brilliant saved to deny Price who must had thought he had scored with a close range shot.
