Cairo's late goal earns a share of the spoils

A late goal from Ellery Cairo snatched a welcome draw for strugglers Heracles Almelo in their Eredivisie clash with Utrecht on Friday night. Ricky van Wolfswinkel had fired the home side in front in the opening minutes and that looked to have secured the points until Cairo struck a minute before the end. Utrecht came into the game on the back of three successive league draws, but things were looking promising when they took the lead after only three minutes at Stadion Galgenwaard. Dries Merten played in Van Wolfswinkel with a clever pass which left him one-on-one with Remko Pasveer and the Heracles goalkeeper could then only watch as the striker lifted a left-footed shot over his head into the net. Van Wolfswinkel found himself in a similar position on the half-hour mark as Utrecht looked to add to their lead, but this time Pasveer was wise to the danger and parried away the strike. Play immediately went down the other end of the pitch and Heracles were unfortunate not to be level when Everton darted into the box before producing a right-footed drive which came back off the crossbar. The second half was a largely forgettable affair for the crowd, although Edouard Duplan tried to liven things up with his solo effort for Utrecht from the edge of the box which had to be palmed away by Pasveer. Utrecht looked to have done enough for the win, until a minute before the final whistle when a low cross from Tim Breukers was despatched into the bottom right corner by a cheeky back-heel from Cairo.
