Bad-tempered affair finishes all-square

Simeon Jackson's 11th goal of the season preserved Gillingham's unbeaten home run in a bad-tempered 1-1 draw with Brentford. Jackson headed home just after the hour mark to cancel out Charlie MacDonald's effort before Nathan Elder and Gills skipper Barry Fuller were both sent off. The home side were starting to get into the game after a lacklustre start but fell behind with 27 minutes gone after an absolute disaster at the back, with a slack John Nutter ball letting in Elder and he went around Simon Royce before teeing up MacDonald to tap his 10th of the season into an empty net. Gillingham came flying out after the break and Gary Mulligan had a shot blocked before Jackson was inches away from connecting with Garry Richards' cross but the Gills' top scorer was not to be denied and drew his side level with a thumping header when Mark Bentley headed on Nutter's free-kick. The visitors were then reduced to 10 men after a scuffle as Gillingham prepared to defend a free-kick ended with Elder shoving Simon King over and he was shown a straight red card. Mark Stimson's men pushed forward for a winner but Curtis Weston headed wide and Richards was denied by a brilliant save from Ben Hamer before Fuller was sent off for a bad challenge on Sam Wood.
