Bore puts Mariners ahead before Johnson salvages point

Mike Newell was denied a win in his first game in charge of Grimsby by a 90th-minute Wycombe equaliser. Peter Bore put the Mariners ahead after just 41 seconds but the league leaders salvaged a point through a late Leon Johnson header, while the visitor's also had midfielder Tom Doherty sent off for a high tackle four minutes from time. Grimsby went ahead in their first attack when Nathan Jarman broke down the left and slipped the ball inside to Nick Hegarty whose left footed shot was trickling towards the line when Bore forced the ball home. It was then all Wycombe with Chris Zebroski went close on three occasions. First he broke down the middle with keeper Phil Barnes saving at his feet and then he turned in the box onto a ball from Gavin Grant only for Barnes to block his shot and finally he saw a right foot curler palmed away by the keeper. Barnes twice denied Wycombe after the break, first saving a John Mousinho header and then keeping out a header from Zebroski. Doherty was shown a straight red by referee Colin Webster for raising his studs in a tackle on James Hunt but 10-man Wycombe kept going for the equaliser and got it when Craig Woodman took a free kick from the left and Johnson arrived late in the box to head home.
