McKay and Akinfenwa on scoresheet for Northampton
Northampton overcame Hereford with a solid 2-0 victory at Edgar Street thanks to goals from Billy McKay and Adebayo Akinfenwa.
The Bulls looked to have taken the lead in the second minute when Lee Morris netted from close range but it was disallowed by referee Graham Salisbury.
Yet Northampton swept into the lead in the 29th minute when McKay beat goalkeeper Adam Bartlett with a low drive from 15-yards.
Shortly before the break, Hereford manager John Trewick was dismissed from the dugout by referee Salisbury for arguing with his linesman.
Early in the second half, Hereford keeper Bartlett made a brilliant save to stop a close-range header from Akinfenwa.
But the striker was not to be denied and lobbed the ball over Bartlett in the 67th minute for his 13th goal of the season.
