      Robinson snatches Leeds win

A late Andy Robinson goal gave Leeds victory after twice coming from behind against Hartlepool.

Five goal thriller at Elland Road

A late Andy Robinson goal sent Leeds into the fourth round of the Carling Cup after the hosts twice came from behind against Hartlepool. Andy Monkhouse headed the visitors into the lead on two minutes but Robert Snodgrass replied for the hosts 12 minutes later. Joel Porter then restored Hartlepool's lead on 33 minutes but the hosts drew level again through Enoch Showunmi on 58 minutes. Robinson then scored at the death to send the Elland Road faithful into delirium.

      Early goal

Leeds-born Monkhouse's goal came after Richie Humphreys' free-kick from the left was shunted to the far post by Porter and he headed home. Leeds were gifted a soft equaliser when former Livingston striker Snodgrass won the ball, sprinted forward and shot inside the left post from 15 yards. Soon after, Australian international Porter had rifled Hartlepool back in front with a 25-yard drive which caught Ankergren off his line. Leeds' leading scorer Jermaine Beckford left the bench in place of Snodgrass who was suffering from a stomach upset. The hosts were much livelier in the second half and they pulled level again in the 58th minute, Enoch Showunmi forcing the ball over the line after David Prutton's cross was turned against the bar by Beckford. Extra-time seemed certain until winger Robinson accepted Jonny Howson's pass and blasted an unstoppable shot past startled keeper Arran Lee-Barrett.
