Jarvis and Plummer strike to stun Championship outfit
Luton Town stunned Championship club Plymouth 2-0 as they advanced to the second round of the Carling Cup.
Efforts either side of half-time from Rossi Jarvis and substitute Tristan Plummer handed the Hatters a deserved triumph against an out-of-sorts Pilgrims outfit.
The visitors had to be thankful for a string of saves from goalkeeper Graham Stack earlier on in the game.
But ex-Norwich man Jarvis opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute, blasting home a right-footed half volley from 12 yards after a right-wing pull-back from former Canaries team-mate Chris Martin.
Plymouth brought on Rory Fallon at half-time and showed immediate improvement.
Fallon was involved as he headed on a Jason Puncheon corner for Steve MacLean to net from close range in the 62nd minute, but the effort was disallowed for a foul.
Instead, Luton sealed the win 11 minutes from time when a ricochet off Plymouth substitute Jamie Mackie teed-up Asa Hall, whose shot was parried by Stack into the path of Plumber to score.
Puncheon hit the crossbar for Plymouth a minute from time but Luton comfortably held on.
