Macclesfield pile pressure on Luton

Out-of-form Macclesfield recorded their first league win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Luton. Penalised 30 points at the start of the campaign, Luton had already reduced the gap to 23 points and were hoping to cut it even further with Macclesfield having lost their first four games. However after 11 minutes veteran striker Simon Yeo, a 35-year-old among a team containing five players aged 20 and under, slotted home the opener with a classic lobbed volley from 25 yards that left Dean Brill stranded. The Silkmen might have had more goals in the first half with Yeo forcing a sharp save from Brill at the near post and teenager Matthew Flynn powering a far-post header into the side netting. Luton showed little with Lewis Emanuel drilling their best chance over the bar from the edge of the box in the 32nd minute. Young defender James Jennings added Macclesfield's second after 59 minutes with a powerful left-foot drive to the top corner and Luton could muster little but a late consolation when sub Ryan Charles found the net with a free-kick that proved to be the last kick of the game.
