PSV thrown out of Cup

PSV Eindhoven have been thrown out of the Dutch Cup after fielding an ineligible player.

Eindhoven disqualified from Dutch Cup

PSV Eindhoven have been thrown out of the Dutch Cup after fielding an ineligible player in their second round match against SC Heerenveen. Defender Manuel Da Costa was banned for the game because he received two yellow cards in last year's competition. However PSV still included him in their side and have now been disqualified from the tournament by the Dutch FA.

Embarrassing

PSV general director Jan Reker was embarrassed by the situation and has apologised to the club's fans and players for the error. Speaking on the club's official website he said: "This is an inexcusable blunder. I have immediately taken the decision to alter our administrative affairs procedures. "We will make a thorough investigation and believe me, you haven't heard the last of that."
Disappointment
PSV have won the Dutch Cup eight times and had made a bright start to this year's campaign by beating Heerenveen 3-0 in Wednesday's tie. And Reker is disappointed that they will not be able to compete for the trophy again this season. "We always compete for silverware, so I really, really regret not being able to win the Dutch Cup this season."
