Gillespie receives NI axe

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington has dropped Keith Gillespie for the meeting with San Marino.

But Hughes, McCartney and Davis are back in contention

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has dropped Keith Gillespie for the forthcoming World Cup qualifier with San Marino. The winger, who has made 86 appearances for his country, is currently without a club after his contract with Sheffield United was terminated by mutual consent. And the former Manchester United and Newcastle player will now miss the away meeting with San Marino on 11th February after Worthington opted to overlook the 33-year-old. However, Aaron Hughes, George McCartney and Steven Davis have all earned recalls after they missed November's friendly defeat to Hungary. Worthington has also called up promising Celtic pair Niall McGinn and Pat McCourt for match.
Northern Ireland squad in full:
Goalkeepers: Taylor (Birmingham), Mannus (Linfield), Tuffey (Partick). Defenders: Baird (Fulham), Evans (Man Utd), Craigan (Motherwell), Hughes (Fulham), McCartney (Sunderland), McAuley (Ipswich), McGivern (Man City). Midfielders: Davis (Rangers), McCann (Scunthorpe), Brunt (West Brom), McGinn (Celtic), Clingan (Norwich), Johnson (Birmingham), McCourt (Celtic), Shiels (Hibernian).
