Pocognoli pens Alkmaar contract

Sebastien Pocognoli has committed his long-term future to AZ Alkmaar by signing a contract extension.

Full-back happy to stay with Dutch champions

Sebastien Pocognoli has committed his long-term future to AZ Alkmaar by signing a contract extension. The highly-rated full-back is now tied down to the Eredivisie champions until the summer of 2014. The 21-year-old still had three years left to run on his previous deal, but was happy to prolong his association with the club despite mooted interest from abroad. "I have the feeling that I still have a lot to prove and learn at AZ," he told the club's official website. "I am not ready for the next step yet. "I hope I can develop myself further next season in the Champions League and play with AZ for trophies again." Alkmaar's technical director Marcel Brands added: "He has developed very well at our club, and that was the reason for us to reward him with a new contract. "He is the prototype of the complete left-back. Poco is fast, has a good tackle, he has become a much stronger defender and contributes to the attack. "We are very happy with him, also because good left-backs are hard to find nowadays."
