Brown could miss final

Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown's place in the FA Cup final is in doubt because of his wife's pregnancy.

Birth of second child could hamper Brown's final plans

Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown's place in the FA Cup final is in doubt because of his wife's pregnancy. Pompey take on Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday 15th May as they look to salvage something from what has been a bleak relegation campaign. However, Brown might not be able to make the end-of-season spectacle as his wife is due to give birth to their second child on the very same day. He told The News: "Everyone asks me 'what would you do?' "But hopefully that's a decision that will not have to be made. "The missus is getting in the way a bit at the moment. But seriously we're both looking forward to it. It's just come at a strange time. "The due date was always 15th May, but it was only when we got to the quarter-finals I realised it was cup final day. "It's a difficult one at the moment but we will just have to see what the next week brings. "We'll keep checking on her and see how things are going."

Better news

Meanwhile, fellow Pompey midfielder Richard Hughes could recover from injury in time to make the cup final after being substituted against Wolves. First-team coach Paul Groves added: "Richard came off with a hamstring problem and it's very early days with regards to the prognosis. "There's a small chance that he may be fit, but obviously time is running out. "Richard's reaction at the time was down to the fact that he knew it could curtail his chances. "But he has come into the training ground on Monday and Tuesday and it doesn't feel as bad as he thought it would. "So there is some hope that he will be available for the final."
