UEFA uphold suspensions for match-fixing claims

Vukasin Poleksic and Norbert Meszaros have had their appeals against suspension in connection with attempts to fix a UEFA Champions League match dismissed by Uefa. The pair, who play for the Hungarian champions Debrecen, were found guilty of failing to report that they were approached by fixers ahead of last October's group stage clash with Fiorentina, which the Serie A side won 4-3. Goalkeeper Poleksic was banned until June 2012 and defender Meszaros until December 2011. Both punishments - handed out "for breaching principles of integrity, loyalty and sportsmanship" - remain in place. The duo's next step is to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
