Accies keeper believes success is paramount against St Mirren

Hamilton keeper Tomas Cerny believes this weekend's basement battle with St Mirren is possibly the biggest match of his career. The Czech shot-stopper is certain to be in goal as Billy Reid's side look to close the gap on the second-from-bottom Buddies on Saturday. Anything but a victory for the Accies would almost certainly end their hopes of avoiding the drop having garnered just 16 points from their opening 30 league matches. Cerny is no stranger to the big occasion, however, he believes the club will be facing a near impossible battle to save themselves if they fail to claim the three points at St Mirren Park.

Biggest game

"I'd say this is one of the biggest games of my career, possibly the biggest," said Cerny. "It's massive for us because of what's at stake. "We know we have to win because if we don't we'll find ourselves in a very tough situation. "I remember playing for the Czech Republic Under 19s in a European Championship game against England. It was the last game of the group and we needed to win, which we did. "Also, the game for Accies which got us promoted to the SPL was really important. There was a lot of pressure on us to win. "In the past couple of seasons we've had significant games to make us safe from relegation. So I've played in important matches but Saturday's against St Mirren is up there with them. "We still feel we can win and get out of this situation. The international break has been a good thing for us because it has allowed us to work on things in training. "We're trying to prepare the best we can to win on Saturday. If we draw there are still seven games to go so we'll still have a chance of staying up. "But winning would give us a huge boost and put the pressure on St Mirren."
Future
Cerny has hinted he would consider his future if Hamilton were unable to save themselves, stating returning to the First Division would not be a good career move. "To drop down into the First Division would be taking a big step back in my career," he added. "But at the moment I'm not thinking like that. I'm focusing on the games we have left. I still hope we can do something about it."
