The agent of South Africa striker Katlego Mphela confirms the striker is set to join Celtic on trial.

South Africa striker keen on move to Europe

South Africa striker Katlego Mphela is set to join Scottish giants Celtic on trial, his agent has confirmed. The 26-year-old currently plays for South African side Mamelodi Sundowns but is keen to try his luck again in Europe after a spell with French side Strasbourg between 2004 and 2006. Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa are also interested in signing the striker but are unwilling to meet Sundowns' £1.5million asking price. Celtic may be prepared to meet the South African side's valuation of the player, but only once they have had a closer look at Mphela on trial. "I can confirm that Mphela has an offer for a trial with Glasgow Celtic. I passed the letter of invitation on to Sundowns in the last 24 hours," said Mphela's agent Glyn Binkin. "Clubs like that want to be able to see the player before signing, though. "Katlego's an unknown quantity in Europe. He played there before but didn't quite make it the first time, so clubs want him to come on trial first."
