York's latest signing Jonathan Smith will add a winning mentality to the squad, according to manager Gary Mills.
Smith, 25, who left York last summer to join Swindon, has returned to Bootham Crescent after making 48 appearances for Paolo Di Canio's League Two champions. "These achievements give you confidence and you want more," Mills told the York Press. "You see the difference in players who have suffered five or six relegations - those experiences drain you. "People who have won promotion and other things are 10 feet tall and full of themselves. It saves me a job in terms of motivating them to an extent." Mills added: "He's disappointed that he's been made available because he wanted to play in the next league, but Paulo di Canio's the manager and makes decisions and this one was to our benefit."
