No City bid for Godin

Image: Diego Godin: Reported to be attracting interest from Manchester City and Liverpool

Sky Sports sources understand that reports claiming Man City have lodged a bid for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin are wide of the mark.

Atletico yet to receive any offers for centre-half

Sky Sports sources understand that reports claiming Manchester City have lodged a bid for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin are wide of the mark. The Uruguay international was said to have been identified as a top target by Roberto Mancini as he attempts to bring fresh faces into the Etihad Stadium. The reigning Premier League champions have been surprisingly quiet during the summer transfer window, with Jack Rodwell their only signing to date. City have, however, been linked with a number of players from across Europe.

Wish list

Godin, who is also said to be interesting Liverpool, was believed be among those to figure prominently on City's wish list. Speculation suggested that a €10million (£7.9m) bid had been put to Atletico for their South American centre-half. The Primera Liga outfit are looking to cut costs this summer in the wake of their failure to secure UEFA Champions League qualification and exits are expected. It is, however, understood that they have yet to receive any official approach for Godin.
