Defender admits there is a lot to learn back in the top flight

Jos Hooiveld insists there is no anxiety at Southampton despite their disappointing start to life back in the Premier League. Last season's Championship runners-up have lost both of their games since returning to the top flight after defeats by Manchester City and, on Saturday, Wigan Athletic. But on the back of successive promotions over the past couple of seasons, defender Hooiveld is adamant confidence remains high. He said: "This is the kind of club where we do not panic easily. We came from League One two years ago and are now in the top flight.

Concentration

"There are a lot of things we need to learn and need to be cleverer in but if you look at the players here, it will come." Franco Di Santo's 51st minute goal and a late strike from Arouna Kone gave Wigan the points at St Mary's and Hooiveld admits the first home game was a wake-up call. He said: "The thing that I now realise, two games in, is that as soon as people drop a couple of per cent in their concentration you are going to get punished. "Like the first goal, for example. We controlled the game quite okay until that moment, then you know it's going to be difficult." The Premier League fixture-list does not get any easier for Southampton as next weekend they host Manchester United before travelling to Arsenal on 15th September.
