Shrimpers to appeal Corr's red

Southend have confirmed they are to appeal against Barry Corr's dismissal in Saturday's 1-0 win at Hartlepool.

The striker's red card came on the stroke of half-time when he tangled with Pools defender Jack Baldwin from behind and, on the advice of an assistant, was somewhat harshly given his marching orders by referee Mark Brown. Corr has been handed a three-match suspension but the Shrimpers will be hoping that is overturned as they prepare to present their case. The club's official Twitter feed read: "We can confirm we have given notice of appeal with regards to Barry Corr's red card on Saturday against Hartlepool United. "A final appeal will be lodged shortly and we hope the appeal will be heard on Tuesday afternoon."
