Tigers star announces retirement with Slovenia

Hull City star Robert Koren has announced his retirement from international football with Slovenia. The 31-year-old has decided to quit the international scene after winning 61 caps and scoring five goals for his country. Koren captained Slovenia at the 2010 World Cup finals and played in all three games in South Africa, including scoring the winning goal in the victory over Algeria. The former West Brom man has now opted to quit international football so that he can focus on his club commitments with Hull.

Careful reflection

"After long and careful reflection, I have decided to end my career on the national football team of Slovenia, effective today," Koren said in a statement on his official website. "This decision is an intensely difficult one for me, as I have always taken a great pride in playing for Slovenia and later also captaining our national football team. "I would also like to take this opportunity to warmly thank all my team-mates, the entire technical and medical service staff, and of course, our fans. "Together we have been a big happy family, and I will forever fondly remember the times we have spent together."
