Kavanagh: I'm extremely pleased

Graham Kavanagh insists Carlisle's 3-1 victory at Stevenage proves he's up to the task of taking over the managers job permanently.

The former Stoke midfielder has been in caretaker charge since Greg Abbott was sacked last Monday and has steered the Cumbrians to two successive League One victories. The latest came after Matty Robson and David Amoo both struck late on and Kavanagh has been delighted with the way his troops have picked themselves up. "I'm extremely pleased with the response I've had from the players, staff, chairman and fans and it's lovely to give them what they ask you for," he said. "I think I've shown whether I get the job or not that the staff and I are capable of doing it. Whatever the club chooses to do I will keep doing my job and see what this week holds. "I set the players a challenge to see if they could get the second win in a row and they did it. "We've got six points out of six and to be honest it was about taking pressure off the players and that often happens when there's a change in manager. "We knew it would be a tough game and credit to the boys we didn't let our heads drop when we conceded. I thought tactically we could shut up shop and hope they didn't get too much of the ball." Carlisle skipper Lee Miller put the visitors in front but the home side drew level when Luke Freeman was tripped in the box by Troy Archibald-Henville and Greg Tansey stepped up to slot home from the spot. But two late goals put the game to bed as Robson fired home with a left-footed drive before former Liverpool man Amoo struck with five minutes to go.
