Empoli secured first-leg advantage

Juventus slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Empoli in the first leg of their last 16 meeting in the Coppa Italia. Claudio Ranieri rang the changes to his Juve side and paid the price as Empoli battled to a win. The hosts took the lead on 19 minutes when Nicola Pozzi's header bounced down off the crossbar and over the line. Empoli added a second goal early in the second half through Ignazio Abate before Juve had Sergio Almiron sent off.
