Inter march on; Roma are held; Palermo impress

Internazionale extended their lead at the summit of Serie A to seven points with a 2-0 victory away to struggling Cagliari. Julio Cruz broke the deadlock 12 minutes after the interval before David Suazo made sure of Inter's 12th victory in 16 games with the second 11 minutes from time. Roberto Mancini's men have proved unstoppable so far this season, in stark contrast to Cagliari who now prop up the rest of Serie A after slipping below Reggina on goal difference. Roma's pursuit of the leaders was checked after a 0-0 draw at Torino. In a tight game, Roma were unable to make the breakthrough against a Torino side who had Gianluca Comotto sent off in the last minute. Fiorentina's bid for UEFA Champions League football failed to pick up serious momentum after a 2-2 draw at Sampdoria. Daniele Gastaldello put Samp ahead on 18 minutes only for Romanian striker Adrian Mutu to equalise on 39 minutes. Marco Donadel put Fiorentina in front just before the hour mark, but Samp snatched a point 20 minutes from time courtesy of Antonio Cassano. Palermo climbed up the table after an impressive 3-1 victory at Atalanta, who fell behind to Edinson Cavani's 13th minute goal. Giuseppe Biava made it 2-0 on 35 minutes and, 10 minutes into the second half, Amauri notched Palermo's third. Fernando Tissone scored a 62nd minute consolation for Atalanta, who now slip behind Palermo in the table. Parma recorded just a fourth Serie A win of the season after an emphatic 3-0 success at home to struggling Reggina. Bernardo Corradi opened the scoring on 25 minutes, Andrea Pisanu added a second three minutes after the interval and Massimo Paci netted on 65 minutes. Empoli were denied a much-needed three points by a late equaliser from Genoa in a 1-1 draw. The hosts had gone in front through Sebastian Giovinco on the cusp of half-time, but Andrea Masiello levelled for Genoa two minutes from time. Siena were another team in search of a priceless win, but were held 1-1 at home by promoted Napoli. Mario Frick put Siena ahead on 63 minutes, only for Napoli to level within 60 seconds through Mariano Bogliacino.
Atalanta 1 Palermo 3
Cagliari 0 Internazionale 2
Empoli 1 Genoa 1
Parma 3 Reggina 0
Sampdoria 2 Fiorentina 2
