Serie A round-up

Catania and Juventus drew 1-1 and it was a similar tale between Empoli and Reggina.

Two 1-1 stalemates ensue in Italy as Del Piero saves Juve

Only a stoppage time penalty from Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero prevented the Turin giants from falling to their first defeat at Catania since 1964. Juve had the better of the early sparring but against the run of play the Sicilians took the lead when Gionatha Spinesi converted Giuseppe Mascara's cross with a fine volley. Both sides had further chances to alter the scoreline but it was Del Piero that did so, when at the game's death he was adjudged - somewhat controversially - to have been felled in the box by Marco Biagianti. The veteran striker dusted himself down to convert and save Juve's blushes into the bargain.

'Six-pointer'

In Saturday's other game Empoli and Reggina also played out a 1-1 draw. All the drama in the relegation 'six-pointer' came in the opening 15 minutes as Empoli fell behind in only the second minute when Fabio Ceravolo stole in for Reggina. The way side's lead last just two minutes as Luca Saudati converted from the penalty spot, before on 15 minutes he wasted the chance to give his side maximum spoils when he saw a second spot-kick saved.
Catania 1 Juventus 1
Empoli 1 Reggina 1
