Juve reach quarter-finals after eight-goal thriller

Juventus edged out Empoli 5-3 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia 6-5 on aggregate. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg Juventus came flying out of the blocks and Marco Marchionni fired them in front after just four minutes against his old club to level up the aggregate scoreline. Pavel Nedved doubled the lead six minutes later only for Empoli to hit back and draw level before half-time thanks to goals from Luca Antonini (33) and Nicola Pozzi (45). Vincenzo Iaquinta restored Juve's lead five minutes after the break, but Pozzi drew the visitors level again just two minutes later. Iaquinta grabbed his second of the night just past the hour to level the aggregate scores and Alessandro Del Piero came off the bench to net the winner from the penalty spot 11 minutes from time after Iaquinta had been felled in the box. Juventus are likely to face Internazionale in the last eight with the Nerazzurri holding a 4-1 advantage over Reggina from their first leg encounter.
