Empoli change managers following latest defeat

Serie A basement boys Empoli have sacked manager Alberto Malesani and re-instated Luigi Cagni following yet another defeat. Empoli have now won just six of their 31 league games to date this term after losing 2-0 to Sampdoria on Sunday. Malesani only replaced Cagni in November, although the 57-year-old is now back in charge for the remainder of the season. "Empoli would like to announce that Malesani and his assistant Ezio Sella have been relieved of their duties," read a statement on the club's official website. "The president wants to thank Malesani and Sella for the work they have done and wish them the greatest success. "The job has been handed back to Cagni and his second in command Fabrizio Lorieri. Cagni will take training this afternoon."
