Zigic on target in easy Serbia win; Italy survive a scare

Italy survived a scare as they came from a goal down against Estonia, while Serbia made light work of Faroe Islands in their Euro 2012 qualifying Group C opener as they recorded a 3-0 victory. The Italians were forced to work harder than they would have liked to escape from Tallinn with a 2-1 victory. Sergei Zenjov had given Estonia a shock first-half lead against the 2006 World champions. But second-half strikes from Antonio Cassano and Leonardo Bonucci allowed coach Cesare Prandelli to begin his competitive reign at the Italy helm with a win. Serbia had no such concerns as they swept aside underdogs Faroe Islands in their opening match. Birmingham new-boy Nikola Zigic completed the scoring in Torshavn in injury-time before the final whistle, with Danko Lazovic (13) and Dejan Stankovic (18) having scored before half-time. Corry Evans' second-half goal helped Northern Ireland make a dream start to their qualifying campaign as they beat Slovenia 1-0.
