Ligue 1 Round-Up

Lyon edged closer to the Ligue 1 title, while Strasbourg were condemned to relegation.

Title race goes to final day, while Strasbourg go down

Lyon edged closer to the Ligue 1 title with victory over Nancy, while Strasbourg were condemned to relegation after defeat to Caen. The reigning champions edged out Nancy at Stade Gerland with an unfortunate own goal from Andre Luiz giving them all three points at Stade Gerland. Bordeuax ensured the title race will go to a last day finale with a 2-0 success over Sochaux. Fernando Menegazzo broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half-time and Marouane Chamakh made the game safe with a second goal on 57 minutes. Strasbourg became the second side to be relegated after a heavy 4-1 loss to Caen at home. The home side got off to the worst possible start when Julien Toudic gave Caen the lead after just seven minutes and five minutes later Manuel Dos Santos put through his own net to double the advantage. Kevin Gameiro gave Strasbourg hope with a goal on 23 minutes only for Yoan Gouffran to restore the two-goal cushion on 32 minutes. Toudic confirmed Strasbourg's fate with his second and his side's fourth goal six minutes from time. Paris Saint Germain climbed out of the bottom three after a 1-1 draw with St Etienne at Parc des Princes. Lois Perrin gave St Etienne the lead a minute before the break, but Jeremy Clement popped up with an equaliser on the hour mark to give PSG a priceless point. Lens slipped into the drop zone after going down 2-1 at Lille. Yohan Cabaye fired Lille in front three minutes before the interval and Pierre-Alain Frau doubled the lead on 65 minutes. Olivier Monterrubio reduced the arrears from the penalty spot four minutes later, but Lens could not muster an equaliser. Toulouse remain in trouble after losing 2-1 at Rennes. Things looked good for Toulouse when Pantxi Sirieix gave them the lead after just 12 minutes, but second half goals from Mickael Pagis (53) and John Mensah (72) turned the game in Rennes' favour and boosted their European aspirations. Marseille missed the chance to go third after being held to a goalless draw by ten-man Le Mans. Samuel Bohours saw red for the home side on 50 minutes, but Marseille could not make their numerical advantage count as Le Mans held out for a point. Monaco continued their improved form with a 3-0 victory over Auxerre at Stade Louis II. After a goalless first half Djamel Bakar broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half. Anderson Nene added a second on 74 minutes and Camel Meriem wrapped up the win with the third eight minutes from time. Lorient piled the misery on basement boys Metz with a 2-1 win. Babacar Gueye gave already relegated Metz the lead on 33 minutes, but second half goals from Rafik Saifi (47) and Fabrice Abriel (66) condemned Metz to another defeat. Nice came away from Valenciennes with a 2-1 win. Honorato Ederson gave the visitors the lead on 50 minutes and Bakari Kone doubled the advantage seven minutes later. Valenciennes were reduced to ten men four minutes from time when Jose Saez was red carded and although Steve Savidan pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on 88 minutes Nice held on for the victory.
