Ten-man Roda JC suffered a surprise 2-0 Eredivisie defeat to NEC Nijmegen at the Parkstad Stadion.
Goals either side of half-time from Jhon van Beukering and Jermain Lens secured the points for NEC as Roda had Cheikh Tiote sent off just after the half-hour mark.
Things started badly for Roda as Jeanvion Matondo was forced off after 16 minutes and the forward was replaced by Sekou Cisse.
And events were then to take a down turn for the home side on 32 minutes as Van Beukering put NEC in front.
Two minutes later Roda's bad day at the office began to feel like a torrid week in the workplace as Tiote was handed his marching orders for a professional foul.
NEC, who have now won five of their last six, were then comfortable with their numerical advantage and on 67 minutes Lens doubled the lead as he found the back of the net.
Roda failed to muster a reply and NEC now sit one point behind their hosts, who occupy 8th place in the table.
