Shrews ease to easy win

Shrewsbury moved back into the League Two play-off places with a comfortable victory 2-1over Accrington.

Coughlan and Holt goals seal Shrews victory

A first-half double was enough for Shrewsbury to move back into the League Two play-off places with a comfortable victory over visiting Accrington. After a sluggish start the hosts made the breakthrough in the 20th minute when defender Graham Coughlan headed in after poor Stanley marking. The visitors almost hit back when former Shrews midfielder Jimmy Ryan saw a fierce 30-yard effort hit the underside of the crossbar. But the Lancashire side's hopes of a comeback were dashed a minute later when Chris King brought down Nick Chadwick in the area and top scorer Grant Holt netted his 22nd goal of the season from the resulting penalty. Holt should have made it three just before the break but somehow managed to divert Chris Humphrey's low cross wide. Despite plenty of possession in the second half Accrington posed little threat and the home side could have added further goals but Mike Jackson and Ben Davies both saw efforts deflected over. Accrington's best chance came in stoppage time when defender Phil Edwards fired wide from close range.
