Shrewsbury dominated the opening stages but Nick Chadwick volleyed wide before Terry Dunfield's header was saved.
The Shrews did go in front with 19 minutes gone when Davies' precise free-kick found Michael Jackson and he headed in from close range.
Chesterfield were level seven minutes later when Lloyd Kerry's cross was punched by Luke Daniels into the path of Scott Boden, who lashed home an excellent shot from distance.
The home side pressed forward and went back in front eight minutes after the break when Davies curled home a superb free-kick from 20 yards.
Gregor Robertson saw a free-kick cannon off the bar with 10 minutes remaining but Chesterfield failed to find an equaliser.
