Bristol Rovers responded to the sacking of manager Dave Penney on Monday by picking up a 1-0 win at Tranmere Rovers.
The vital goal came in the 19th minute with Chris Lines blasting home from the edge of the box after a poor clearance. The Pirates almost doubled the lead three minutes later but Will Hoskins's shot struck a post. Rovers goalkeeper Tony Warner then denied Hoskins in the 27th minute before John Welsh saw a good effort deflected over as Tranmere tried to get back on terms. At the other end a Charlie Reece shot rebounded away off a defender and Hoskins wasted a good chance soon after the re-start before Bristol keeper Conrad Logan saved a close-range shot by Andy Robinson. Tranmere huffed and puffed but little went right for them in front of goal and the result could have been worse with Hoskins wasting an easy late chance for the visitors.
