Robins rue Saddlers' luck

Struggling Cheltenham extended their unbeaten run to five games after a 1-1 draw at Walsall.

Artus on target again

Cheltenham continue to battle gamely against relegation but sit 11 points adrift of safety despite a 1-1 draw at Walsall extending their unbeaten run to five games. For the hosts, the result ended a run of two successive victories and they had to rely on a fortunate second-half leveller to snatch a point. The Robins took the lead with just three minutes gone when, following a short free-kick, Frankie Artus struck a stunning drive from 30 yards which dipped under the bar. The Saddlers, without two players on international duty and suspended top-scorer Michael Ricketts, were poor in the first half but improved after the break and forced the equaliser in the 67th minute. Defender Chris Palmer whipped a dangerous cross in from the left to which Dwayne Mattis got a touch, but the ball appeared to go over the line off Cheltenham defender Michael Townsend for an own goal. Jabo Ibehre thought he had won it for Walsall with a 70th minute header but another player was ruled offside as the rock-bottom visitors held out.
